About Fonterra

Fonterra, a multinational dairy cooperative, collects over 20 billion liters of milk per year. Headquartered in New Zealand, this international agribusiness leader has a growing market in Asia. Fonterra Brands Asia Holdings, based in Singapore, oversees sites across Southeast Asia.

“We’ve seen substantial time savings since implementing Cloud Inventory. Searches that previously would’ve taken hours now yield results in only 10 minutes.”
Paul Ormond | Project Manager at Fonterra

The Challenge

For Fonterra, managing an international supply chain under strict regulations was proving to be a complex task.

With multiple manufacturing facilities using manual inventory management processes, data entry was a time-consuming and error-prone process. As a result, the company dealt with poor traceability, cumbersome lot control, and inaccurate inventory balances—all of which negatively impacted regulatory compliance.

To keep pace with the increased demand for dairy products in Asia, Fonterra needed to reduce user input, simplify transaction flows, and automate inventory management.

The Solution

Fonterra selected Cloud Inventory to help it automate its warehouse processes. Some of the primary reasons Fonterra chose Cloud Inventory were its digital supply chain solutions and its ability to integrate with the company’s existing ERP.

With Cloud Inventory, Fonterra now had the foundation to streamline inbound and outbound manufacturing processes, on- or off-premises.

The company used Cloud Inventory’s mobile-first platform and solutions to automate tasks in picking, packing, shipping, and work order management. Fonterra workers on the shop floor could now capture inventory updates at moments in which they occurred. Cloud Inventory made it easy for workers to access and input data into the company’s ERP, allowing them to quickly complete purchase order receipts, delivery processing, stock verification, and cycle counts, as well as inventory transfers, issues, and inquiries.

With Cloud Inventory’s pre-built apps, inventory management was quicker than ever. These apps allowed Fonterra employees to automatically decode a range of barcode formats to help them determine item, lot, unit of measure, and lot control type.

Additionally, with the Cloud Inventory mobile platform in place, Fonterra is poised to pursue other efficiency initiatives including Vendor Managed Inventory and Warehouse Management Systems.
