About Womble

Founded in 1972, Womble Company, Inc. is a leading provider of specialty coating systems for steel pipe that ranges in diameter from one-half inch to 36 inches. Based in Houston, Texas, the company primarily serves clients in the oil and gas, construction, and industrial manufacturing industries. Womble receives shipments on trucks, rails, and barges, and it employs 500 people.

“Cloud Inventory has streamlined our ability to respond to customer needs. Implementing the system sped up order entry and production times. This significantly improved our cash flow and customer satisfaction.”
Nick Stefanakis | CFO at Womble

The Challenge

Womble’s operations are conducted almost exclusively outdoors, spanning across 165 acres and managing 155,000 linear feet of pipe per day. Its inventory management was conducted through manual, paper-based processes, which made it impossible to keep track and control of customer inventory.

Without a mobile solution to leverage in open-air yards, Womble struggled to effectively utilize resources and connect information between the yard and the back-office enterprise systems. This caused production to slow and customer orders to be delayed.

To enhance operational efficiency and improve its customer service, Womble needed to automate supply chain operations on their journey from analog to digital business by implementing a mobile solution.

The Solution

Womble turned to Cloud Inventory® mobile applications for a complete on and off-premises, multi-lingual solution to improve inventory visibility and accuracy.

A primary reason Womble selected Cloud Inventory was its ability to integrate seamlessly with its ERP, Oracle JD Edwards EnterpriseOne. This allowed Womble to pull real-time inventory and performance data into and out of EnterpriseOne.

The Results

Womble now has complete control over its extended supply chain processes and is poised to evolve in the future without technical limitations.

Womble no longer allocates its workforce toward pen-and-paper tracking or manually searching for missing products. Womble now tracks its customers’ products from receipt through shipment using Cloud Inventory’s serialization and barcoding technology.

Since implementing Cloud Inventory, Womble has successfully coated and tracked more than 57,000 miles of pipe—enough to wrap around the earth twice—without losing a single piece.

Employees are free to focus on the pipe-coating process and other value-added activities, creating a dramatic increase in Womble’s daily productivity. Improved efficiency has enabled Womble to maintain its reputation for exceptional levels of customer support.

“Thanks to Cloud Inventory, Womble has realized its goal of becoming a more efficient, productive mobile company," said Nick Stefanakis, CFO at Womble.
